High Level Group (HLG) on Aviation and Aeronautics Research

Vice-President Siim Kallas and Commissioner Geoghegan Quinn launched a High Level Group (HLG) on Aviation and Aeronautics Research in December 2010, set to work out a new vision for the aviation sector by 2050.

Gathering representatives from infrastructure, vehicle, operation, fuel and research sectors, this group of 15 fed its thoughts into what has been presented as a 2050 vision report pdf - 2 MB [2 MB] at the 2011 AeroDays in Madrid.

Vice-President Kallas made it clear that, together with Ms Geoghegan Quinn, he is determined to shift the approach from a supply-driven towards a truly demand-driven one: EU research money should be spent on real industrial priorities with a clear EU added value, so as to preserve EU growth and competitiveness worldwide, whilst meeting our energy and environmental challenges.
