Internal Market

Competition in the Hungarian rail market is increasing, with more than 37% of the freight market run by operators other than the main one. However, the corresponding figure for the passenger market remains low at 3.2%. Hungary has very few pending court cases concerning alleged infringements of EU transport law (figures from end July 2016) and a perfect 100% score for the transposition of EU transport related directives into national law (up from 96% - the lowest score EU-wide – in 2013).
