International Aviation - EU-US Aviation Forum on Liberalisation and Labour
3 and 4 December 2008, Washington, D.C.
The European Commission (Directorate General External Relations and Directorate General for Energy and Transport) hosted the Aviation Forum on Liberalisation and Labour on 3-4 December in Washington D.C.
The 'Labour Forum' forms part of an initiative to facilitate discussion between stakeholders and decision-makers on labour issues linked to the first stage EU-US accord and the ongoing negotiations on a comprehensive second stage aviation agreement. The event was intended to provide the participants with a common understanding of the labour laws and employee concerns that have a bearing on the agreement and its future evolution.
The EU-US Aviation Forum on Liberalisation and Labour was organised with the support of labour organisations on both sides of the Atlantic and involved the participation of over 70 individuals from US and Member State Governments, unions, European and US airlines and airline representatives, academia, labour experts, and officials from the European Commission and European agencies. The event was funded by the European Commission's Directorate General of External Relations.
