Mērķi un uzdevumi
| Organizācijas mērķi un uzdevumi: |
JTI – Japan Tobacco International – is the international tobacco division of Japan Tobacco Inc., the world’s third largest multinational tobacco company, with a global market share of 11% and market capitalization of approximately USD 32 billion.
Our company was formed in 1999 when Japan Tobacco Inc. purchased, for USD 8 billion, the international tobacco operations of the US multinational R.J. Reynolds. In 2007, Gallaher, a FTSE 100 business, was acquired by Japan Tobacco Inc. for GBP 9.4 billion. At the time, this was the largest foreign acquisition by a Japanese company. 2009 marked JTI’s 10th year anniversary. We are a young company built on solid tobacco experience and the rich heritage of our parent company dating back to the 18th century.
We are headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. Since 1999, our President and CEO is Pierre de Labouchere. Our Executive Committee consists of 17 members representing 12 nationalities. We are a truly international and multicultural business, employing 25,000 people around the world.
Our eight Global Flagship Brands constitute the core of JTI’s brand portfolio, which includes three of the top five worldwide cigarette brands: Winston, Mild Seven and Camel. Our portfolio also includes Benson & Hedges, Silk Cut, Sobranie of London, Glamour, and LD. We also sell other tobacco products such as Hamlet cigars, Old Holborn and Amber Leaf “roll-your-own” tobacco, and a Swedish-style smokeless tobacco, Gustavus snus.
We recognize that our products generate controversy; as such, we do not encourage people to smoke and we strongly discourage youth smoking. We recognize the health risks of smoking and try to reduce them. We are committed to developing reduced-risk products and fostering understanding between smokers and non-smokers, while respecting norms, legislation and cultures around the world. We are committed to providing a safe workplace for our employees and to conducting our business in a way that is environmentally sustainable.
We are open to, and seek dialogue with, governmental authorities around the world. In 2007, we signed a historic 15-year agreement with the European Union and 26 of its Member States to help combat the illegal trade of cigarettes. Since April 2009, all EU Member States are signatories to the agreement.
