Mērķi un uzdevumi

Organizācijas mērķi un uzdevumi: The World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) is a global nonprofit organization representing and coordinating a membership of over 100 national United Nations Associations (UNAs) and their thousands of constituents.

Guided by our vision of a United Nations that is a powerful force in meeting common global challenges and opportunities, WFUNA works to strengthen and improve the United Nations. Darbības

Svarīgākās ES iniciatīvas, ar kurām organizācija strādāja iepriekšējā gadā, veicot darbības, uz kurām attiecas pārredzamības reģistra izmantošanas joma:

Peace and Security and Post-2015
In 2013, WFUNA launched its project “Freedom from Violence: Peace, Security and Conflict Prevention in the post-2015 agenda” with 6 UNAs – Armenia, India, Venezuela, Rwanda, Uganda and South Africa. The project aims to build the capacity of civil society organizations, academic community, media and politicians to advocate for the inclusion of peace, security and conflict prevention in the post-2015 development agenda.

Human Rights Programs
Through "So, you want to be the next High Commissioner" and "Civil Society in Action for Human Rights", WFUNA has trained over 80 UNA representatives to take an active role in upholding human rights in their local communities and internationally. Among the participants, WFUNA counted more than 30 representatives from developing countries, including Ghana, India, Lebanon, Malaysia, Nepal, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Suriname, Tanzania, Uganda, Venezuela and Zimbabwe. After being trained on the international human rights system, on how to engage with human rights mechanisms and on project cycle management, participants implement human rights and development projects in their respective countries. Over three years, projects implemented on the field as part of "So, you want to be the next High Commissioner" and "Civil Society in Action for Human Rights" reached out to more than 10,000 beneficiaries. Projects addressed challenges specific of the country of implementation, including child rights and protection of child from abuse (Nepal and South Africa), awareness raising on human rights issues (Tanzania), involvement of youth as active citizens (Uganda), awareness raising on national constitutions (Zimbabwe) and many more.

WFUNA, in cooperation with UNA-Finland and UNA-Tanzania, is implementing its "Effective Advocacy in the UN Processes" co-learning workshops aiming at empowering civil society to bring the voices of marginalized people in the UN processes. The project is implemented in Tanzania and involves UNAs and civil society organizations of the East African Community (Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda), including journalists and representatives of local governments. During the workshops, participants discuss some of the pressing matters rural communities in the region are facing today while adapting to the effects of climate change- land grabbing and other challenges indigenous people find themselves to grapple. Special sessions on LGBTI rights were also conducted.

Educational Programs
WFUNA and the Korea Economic Daily (KED), economic newspaper agency based in Korea, created the WFUNA Doctors Club, a network of doctors and individuals in the medical field interested in engaging in international development and community work. In January 2014, WFUNA Doctors Club made two visits to the Philippines where they provided free medical care and donations to victims of Typhoon Haiyan. Included in the donations were handmade candles and soap made by volunteers recruited through the efforts of WFUNA Doctors Club.

UNA European Network
WFUNA hosts two informal UNA European Network meetings a year in Europe to allow for an exchange of information among the various European UNAs. We facilitate networking opportunities among the various UNAs and with various EU officials and members of parliament. The Network also focuses on EU related issues and concerns that WFUNA works to address during the meeting. Both member and youth UNAs are invited to attend.

Papildu informācija: UNA stands for United Nations Associations (on-the-ground member constituents). Under WFUNA’s rules and regulations, only one UNA may exist and be active per country. As a global organization with over 100 member organizations, it is difficult for WFUNA to know the exact number of staff and volunteers who constitute each UNA as each of these numbers are constantly changing. An estimated number of those individuals who comprise our UNAs and serve as their individual member constituents is 850 people.

In addition to our UNA network, we also have a UNA-Youth network. Again only one UNA-Youth network may exist per country.

The total number of natural members at our headquarters in New York and at our regional office in Geneva is 20 (staff, interns, volunteers).
