The development of environmentally-friendly technologies and products, such as hybrid or fuel cell electric vehicles or micro-combined heat and power systems has had top priority since the company's founding in 1948. With an annual production of more than 24 million engines, Honda is the world's largest engine manufacturer. The company employs more than 175,000 people in its 68 production plants in 28 countries.
In line with these basic principles, since its establishment in 1948, Honda has remained on the leading edge by creating new value and providing products of the highest quality at a reasonable price, for worldwide customer satisfaction. In addition, the Company has conducted its activities with a commitment to protecting the environment and enhancing safety in a mobile society.
The Company has grown to become the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer and one of the leading automakers. With a global network of 474* subsidiaries and affiliates accounted for under the equity method, Honda develops, manufactures and markets a wide variety of products.

In 2012, Honda Motor Europe was engaged in discussions on the Proposal for a Regulation (EU) of the European Parliament and of the Council on the approval and market surveillance of two- or three-wheel vehicles and quadricycles, and the Proposal for a Regulation (EU) of the European Parliament and of the Council on the approval of agricultural or forestry vehicles.
Honda Motor Europe has also been following the legislative developments of: the Proposal for Recreational Craft Directive, the Proposal on the Sound Levels of Motor Vehicles, the Electro Magnetic Fields Directive and the Proposal amending Regulation (EC) No 443/2009 to define the modalities for reaching the 2020 target to reduce CO2 emissions from new passenger cars.
