Għanijiet u missjonijiet

L-għanijiet u l-missjonijiet ta’ l-entità: Poverty is an outrage against humanity. It robs people of dignity, freedom and hope, of power over their own lives. Christian Aid has a vision - an end to poverty - and we believe that vision can become a reality.
The essential purpose of Christian Aid is to expose the scandal of poverty, to help in practical ways to root it out from the world and to challenge and change the systems which favour the rich and powerful over the poor and marginalised.
Christian Aid works in some of the world's poorest communities in 48 countries wherever the need is greatest and regardless of religion. It works with more than 500 partner organisations to eradicate poverty and injustice.
By working through, and developing relationships with, local organisations (our partners) Christian Aid's work is rooted in the needs, views, aspirations, priorities and realities of poor and marginalised people. This partnership approach gives us insight into the local issues that perpetuate poverty.
We are constantly working to strengthen our accountability to the poor and marginalised people with whom we work, for example by; ensuring that poor people and communities are involved in identifying what issues need to be addressed, and what needs to change; working to ensure that Christian Aid meets recognised standards in accountability and transparency, such as the Humanitarian Accountability Partnership (HAP) international standards and the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI).

Netwerk - Netwerking

Informazzjoni dwar is-sħubija ta’ l-entità f’waħda jew diversi assoċjazzjonijiet/federazzjonijiet/konfederazzjonijiet jew, jekk l-entità hi membru ta’ netwerk, anki jekk ad hoc, informazzjoni dwar il-konnessjonijiet.

Christian Aid belongs to and supports a wide range of networks and other coalitions in the UK and elsewhere in Europe and globally, many of which are issue-specific and/or ecumenical.

With regard to the question about the number of members which Christian Aid has, we need to point out that Christian Aid is not a membership organisation. We have hundreds of thousands of supporters across the UK and elsewhere, but they are not members. Many, but not all, of them give money, others campaign, others pray or support us in other ways. The question does not allow for that possibility, which is the reason why we put '0' in the relevant box.

For our full audited accounts, please go to: www.christianaid.org.uk/annualreport

Following the guidelines of the Civil Society Contact Group and the Alliance for Lobbying Transparency and Ethics Regulation in the EU, Christian Aid estimates that it spent no more than £125,000 in the financial year 2011-12 (the most recent year for which figures are available) on activities carried out for the purpose of influencing the policy formulation and decision-making processes of the EU institutions. The bulk of these costs comprise the salary and related costs, together with travel and incidental expenses, of Christian Aid’s Senior EU Relations Adviser. Other colleagues made occasional trips to Brussels for such purposes, but none made more than six in the year on which we report, nor are they likely to do so in the future. Staff in our overseas offices occasionally meet with the relevant EU delegation, including for lobbying purposes. None of our staff who have any current influencing contact with EU institutions has worked for an EU institution within the five years immediately prior to commencing employment with Christian Aid, but in 2008 one colleague, then working for the Irish Ministry of Justice, sat on EC and Council working groups. All are full or part-time employees of Christian Aid. Christian Aid is a member of a number of civil society networks and other coalitions which have as part of their mandate the influencing of the policy formulation and decision-making processes of EU institutions, and in many cases we part fund those networks or aspects of their work. Such membership fees are not included in our estimated figure.
