Contact person is leading member of the Task Force for the International Plant Exchange Network (IPEN), covering the interests of the botanic gardens that are IPEN member, and promotion of IPEN participation amongst the international community of botanic gardens in order to increase membership. IPEN works to implement the CBD and Nagoya protocol (including the -currently still draft- EU regulation on ABS), within the capacities and possibilities of botanic gardens. For this, no funding is available, and the members of the coordinating body, the Task Force, are allowed by their institutions to dedicate some time do this work.
The IPEN Task Foce, and IPEN itself, are networks, not legal entities.
IPEN membership covers many EU countries, but also extends beyond the EU.

The costs for meetings of the IPEN Task Force, which coordinates IPEN, are born by the institutions where the board members work. Annual board meetings cost about 500 euros per board member.
National workshops within the EU (on invitation) run by one board member also are funded by the institution of that board member. Workshops outside the EU are not possible, due to lack of external funding.
The costs for attending of European network meetings (twice per year), partly for IPEN issues, are also born by the supporting institutions of the IPEN board members.
