Mål og opgaver
| Organisationens mål og opgaver: |
PURPLE was set up in 2004 and brings together regions from across the EU. These regions are working together to maximise the advantages resulting from their location in proximity to large towns and cities, and minimise adverse impacts on the urban/rural character, landscape and environment that make them distinct and special. Specifically we aim to:
•Promote successful socio-economic transition in peri-urban areas and their agricultural sector.
•Influence relevant European policy making.
•Develop a distinctive role as the primary interlocutor with Brussels-based institutions, and with politicians and stakeholders across the EU on issues of special relevance to Europe’s peri-urban regions.
•Act as a platform for peri-urban regions to share knowledge and good practice, allowing connections and productive cross-fertilisation between existing projects, as well as promoting new trans-European initiatives in the field.

PURPLE is interested in policy development and funding support relating to peri-urban areas. It has so far focused its efforts on agricultural and rural policy issues (CAP and EAFRD) and regional policy(ERDF and Territorial Cohesion). However PURPLE is interested in all aspects of the economic, environmental and social sustainability of peri-urban areas and tries to follow as much relevant policy development in these fields as resources allow.

Member regions pay an annual subscription to PURPLE (€4000). The finances are administered by a member region acting as Treasurer for PURPLE. This role is currently filled by Flanders region.
