Younison is an advocacy platform created for European music professionals in 2008 and which represents nearly 7000 individual music artists and professionals. Our goal is to improve the way digital music revenues are collected across the EU and redistributed to the artists by their national authors’ societies.
In the interest of authors and to foster a vibrant pan‐European single market for creative digital
content, Younison believes that Europe must update and harmonise its current system of collective copyright management, with the following principles in mind:
▪ All artists should be compensated for the digital exploitation of their creative works, including for lawful private copying, at home and abroad.
▪ All collecting societies should be obliged by European law to:
1 - Apply strict and harmonized transparency standards to all forms of digital revenue collection and distribution including for copyright levy proceeds.
2 - Provide timely and accurately information on all revenues collected on behalf of authors, including comprehensive information for the exploitation of their works through new distribution models (subscription, promotion, publicity‐based models, etc).
This information is necessary when calculating the usage of music for the distribution of revenues to artists and comprehensive earning reports should be provided accordingly.
3 - Distribute any digital revenue collections ‐ including those resulting from levies collections or any proceeds obtained in other Member States ‐ to the artists on a quarterly basis or at the very least with the same frequency than authors’ societies collect digital revenues for users and other debtors.
4 - Use more accurate, representative and diversified sets of data which also take into account new forms of exploitation of digital works (e.g. subscription, promotion, publicity‐based models, etc.)

Younison believes that artists should be able to exert better control over uses of their works and should be fairly compensated for new (as well as more traditional) forms of use. This requires that national authors’ societies – who serve as intermediaries between those who create music and those who use it – operate in ways that are equitable, transparent and accountable. To ensure this, new rules for authors’ societies are needed – rules that reflect both today’s technologies and the way that musical works are currently distributed and enjoyed.
