Le Gnis, groupement national interprofessionnel des semences et plants, rassemble les professionnels de la filière semencière française: les sélectionneurs, les producteurs, les distributeurs, les agriculteurs-multiplicateurs et les utilisateurs. Il représente les intérêts de la filière, composée notamment de 72 entreprises de sélection, 246 entreprises de production, 17 000 agriculteurs-multiplicateurs et 8 700 distributeurs, et s'attache à coordonner son bon fonctionnement. Le Gnis est également l'organisme officiel auquel l’État a délégué des missions de service public dans le domaine du contrôle de la qualité et de la certification des semences.
