Waarborgen van vastgestelde kwaliteitsnormen voor het houden, verzorgen en beheren van de collectie dieren en planten van de leden. Toezicht op leveren van concrete bijdragen aan bescherming van wilde dieren en planten door deelname aan (inter)nationale fokprogramma's. Zorgen dat de leden via educatie de natuurbeschermingsgedachte uitdragen. Stimuleren wetenschappelijk onderzoek. Bevorderen gezamenlijke activiteiten. Aanspreekpunt nationale overheid met betrekking tot van toepassing zijnde wet- en regelgeving. Vertegenwoordiger leden in internationaal verband. Indien gewenst vertgenwoordigen van de leden bij relevante internationale lichamen en organisaties.
