    Goals / remit

Culture Action Europe est la principale plateforme politique pour la culture en Europe, représentant plus de 80 000 organisations dans 24 pays.

L’Association, dénuée de tout but lucratif, rassemble des personnes physiques et morales autour des objectifs suivants :
a) Placer la culture au cœur du débat public et des prises de décision à tout niveau – du local à l’européen - en tant que composante essentielle au développement de sociétés durables, fondées sur le respect des droits universels de l’homme, pour les générations présentes et à venir ;

b) Encourager le développement de l’Union Européenne, dans le cadre d’une démocratie fondée sur le respect des droits humains et la reconnaissance de l’identité complexe de l’Europe, excluant l’hégémonie d’une seule langue, culture ou religion.

2012 has been an important and positive year for Culture Action Europe (CAE), a turning point of the organisation’s life with many changes having been put into practice. CAE, its members and supporters of the campaign ‘we are more – act for culture in Europe’, launched in strategic partnership with the European Cultural Foundation, positively influenced the European Union legislative process and several of CAE’s and the campaign’s demands will be met once the new operational programmes for 2014-2020 have been approved.

During the year, CAE’s Executive Committee, staff and members invested substantial resources in reviewing the organisation’s position in the EU policy landscape, its relationships with its members and synergies with members’ activities, the functioning of the board and the long-term strategy of the organisation. In order to open up CAE’s reflection to a wider audience beyond the sector, CAE organized an international public conference in Brussels 9-11 Nov 2012 that mobilized more than 170 activists and campaigners from all across Europe. The response to the review by the membership has been very positive, and the 2013 work programme includes a long list of joint activities with old and new members and partners all across Europe.

Concerning the further development of the 'we are more' campaign, additional advocacy tools were developed in the form of a toolkit on the structural funds negotiations and a ‘Lobbying contacts pack’ including the contacts to all relevant institutions per objective and per country. In addition, several events were carried out in collaboration with the Danish and Cyprus EU Presidencies. CAE also produced three public campaign statements on ‘Creative Europe’ and one public campaign statement on the future Structural Funds. In the context of the negotiations of the next multiannual financial framework (MFF) for 2014-2020, CAE set up an online letter to EU Heads of State and governments on the occasion of the extraordinary summit 22-23 November 2012, which was signed by more than 6.000 people in less than one week. CAE also contributed to the EC consultation on the “European year for Citizens 2013”.
