Following the new definition of the scope of the Transparency Register Bayer has reviewed its financial data about activities described in Article 8 of the Inter-Institutional Agreement (published in the Journal L191/29). On this basis and due to the changes of the definition, Bayer adjusted its overall amount spent on advocacy activities.
In the interest of full transparency and on a voluntary basis Bayer states the method used to calculate the indicated budget. Bayer includes 70% of its overall office costs in Brussels into the amount. Bayer did not include the entire office expenses as some of the office’s work is dedicated to internal tasks and therefore does not fall under the definition of the Transparency register.
In addition Bayer included the expenses of other business divisions located mostly in Germany, providing e.g. background research, position papers, political work within European associations and visits to Brussels related to activities falling under the scope of the register. Following the rules of the Transparency Register Bayer included all costs for consultancy contracts falling under the scope and definition of the register.
With regards to the amount of EU grants received directly from EU institutions Bayer calculated all funding received from EU research calls in the year 2011. Therefore this amount is only received for research activities and is not used for lobbying purposes.
