Die Kindernothilfe wurde 1959 von Christinnen und Christen in Duisburg mit dem Ziel gegründet, Not leidenden indischen Kindern zu helfen. Im Laufe der Jahre ist sie zu einem der größten christlichen Kinderhilfswerke in Europa gewachsen. Heute fördert und erreicht die Kindernothilfe rund 779.540 Mädchen und Jungen in 983 Projekten in 30 Ländern in Afrika, Asien, Lateinamerika und Osteuropa
Ziel der Förderung ist, dass Kinder aus den ärmsten Schichten der Bevölkerung eine Chance auf ein besseres Leben bekommen. Die Kindernothilfe stärkt durch Patenschaften und Programme junge Menschen in ihren Rechten und darin, für ihre Rechte einzutreten. Gemeinsam mit ihren Partnern weltweit sieht sie in dem UN-Übereinkommen über die Rechte des Kindes den gemeinsamen Auftrag, Armut zu bekämpfen, Kinder zu schützen, zu fördern und zu beteiligen.
