Goals / remit
| Goals / remit of the organisation: |
The Danish Chamber of Commerce is an independent, private business association, financed by its 17.000 member companies and more than 100 branch associations in the trade, retail, transport, IT, tourism and knowledge services sectors.
The Chamber covers a broad range of activities such as direct business counselling to companies, collective agreements and political advocacy on key issues to ensure the best framework conditions for the members. The Chamber works to ensure a competitive business environment for all its members in a national and international context. We represent our members interests to the decisions makers at the local and national level, vis-à-vis the ministries, the government and other political stakeholders.
The Brussels office closely follows the development of new EU initiatives and legislation in order to inform the head office in Copenhagen on all issues of interest to the members. We work through a number of European umbrella organisations and are also having regular direct contacts with the European Commission and the Parliament.

Complementary information:

The Danish Chamber of Commerce’s office employs what is equivalent to 3 full-time employees per year. On a daily basis, the office is staffed by 1) a full-time manager, who is running the office 2) a stagiaire, who is employed for 10 months, and 3) a posted worker, who is seconded for 3 months. Over the year, three colleagues are seconded to the office from Copenhagen with the purpose of acquiring knowledge and understanding of the European Union’s legislative process. In order not to disturb the MEPs, their assistants, and the administrators unnecessarily, we provide the posted worker with an access badge. Moreover, some colleagues from time to time attend meetings in Brussels (around 4-6 times per year), wherefore it is convenient for them to hold accreditation for the European Parliament.
