The founding of the Institute of Infectious Diseases "Prof.Dr.Matei Bals" has represented a reforming step, which broadened the activity area towards:
- data collection and processing systems; - methodological diagnosis control in the territory; - analysis "aimed" at population clusters; - evaluation of the efficiency of programs regarding vaccination and prevention of the infectious diseases, both emerging and non-emerging; - establishing "standard" therapeutic patterns; - reorganizing emergency medical assistance in infectious diseases.
Scientific research in the area of infections has aimed towards the development and efficiency of the following sectors: immunology, cellular biology,genetics, epidemiology, hepatology (acute and chronic), neuroelectrophysiology, etc., through the use of top modern techniques. A heightened attention has been focused on the virologic, immunologic and psychosomatic diagnosis in HIV/AIDS. The Matei Bals institute has been the first health state unit certified ISO 9001/2000 for the quality of service. Currently, the activity of the Institute portends: - Medical care in the area of infecto-contagious diseaes and of transdisciplinary afflictions; - university and post-university education; - Scientific research; - Methodological guidance and surveillance of the infectious diseases including HIV/AIDS.
