Goals / remit

Goals / remit of the organisation: BlueLink (www.bluelink.net ) is an electronic information network, founded in 1999 by environmental NGOs and active citizens. The network built up capacity and won the broad recognition of the Bulgarian environmental NGO community and the state as the coordinator of the sector’s approach to electronic communications. Over the years BlueLink has served as a platform for publication of independent analysis and news on environmental issues and a mediator for dialogue among organizations, citizens and institutions. At present BlueLink is an up-to-date, virtual network offering a wide range of Internet-based services for the strategic use of ITs in civil society and activism - e.g. campaign websites and mailing lists, e-voting for NGO representatives at governmental committees (http://vote.bluelink.net/), online submission of citizens’ alerts on forest crime (www.spasigorata.net), networking of non-formal civil groups (http://grajdani.eu , underdevelopment), etc. BlueLink has revolutionized the Bulgarian environmental civil sector by empowering it to work cohesively towards sustainable development, democracy and active citizenship.

Currently, we are increasingly engaged in civil actions as a mediator between environmentalists and other thematic civil campaigns – e.g. monitoring of EU funds in Bulgaria, e-waste national NGO advocacy network, urban monitoring, etc. That is why, we would like to develop media applications for empowering various actors to share content on their self-prioritized community issues on various topics. For the moment we would like to center this new media online space in Sofia, as a pilot that, if successful, can be applied to other communities later. This is a pioneering effort at introducing advanced media technology that Bulgarian civil society can’t afford to develop on its own but that is badly needed outside the corporate media. That is why BlueLink as a grassroots information network with proven IT expertise is the suitable team to build this space, supported by our stable position as an online service-provider for the civil society and as an organization that is by force of its strategy (http://bluelink.net/en/menu/documents.shtml?x=40187 ) created to spread independent media content.
