Goals / remit
| Goals / remit of the organisation: |
While most people are aware and make regular use of the diverse and innovative services the Phone Paid industry facilitates, few realise how it is structured, how tightly it is regulated or how satisfied the vast majority of consumers are with the content and services they purchase.
Initially built on traditional TV voting and Competitions, people are now paying for content and services such as music, interactive mapping, personal fitness tracking, social networking and even making charitable donations using their phone.
As technologies develop, Phone Paid services are becoming more and more part of everyday life. They provide a safe, cost effective and convenient way of purchasing content and services.
In terms of scale, the Irish Phone Paid industry is similar in size to the Irish fishing industry and has an estimated 750 people employed in highly skilled jobs.
EXPORTS AND EMPLOYMENT
Not only does a vibrant and well regulated Phone Paid services industry stimulate economic activity and employment within Ireland, it also has proven to be a key catalyst for incubating high potential export companies.
Many Irish service providers incubate services in Ireland and subsequently export them to the UK, Europe, the USA and Australia. Ireland is fast becoming a leading global player in Phone Paid technologies and services.
