To promote the development of the use of bioplastics in packaging, agricolture and other uses, through education, information, formation, events and newsletters etc.
The Association also works through the legislative process to promote the use of bioplastics and to ensure the application of European packaging standards, in particular EN 13432.
Directive for the reduction of use of plastic mono-use shopping bags in the EU
The association was founded in April 2011.
It's first activity has been to present a national survey made to understand how italian citizens view the law banning non biodegradable shopping bags. Over 70% viewed the law favourably.
Further it has worked to pass the Italian law banning mono use plastic bags and to promote their substitution with compostable plastic bags. This law has so far lead to a significant reduction in the sale of mono use plastic bags.
As the association has been created in April 2011 it is stil in it's first phase of growth and has only two part-time employees.
It represents however italian and non italian companies active in the sector, producing biopolimers and transforming and marketing them as finished products.
