Goals / remit
| Goals / remit of the organisation: |
Founded as a trade association, the MPAA (1922) and the MPA (1945) have broadened their mandate over the years to reflect the diversity of an ever-changing and expanding audiovisual industry. Today the association advocates strong protection of the creative works produced and distributed by the audiovisual industry and seeks to fight copyright theft around the world. As a local branch of the MPA, the Brussels-based EMEA office acts as a regional co-ordination hub for content protection. Indeed, the bulk of the EMEA office's work is to provide support (administrative, financial and human resources) to local partner organisations active in about 30 EMEA countries on content protection and anti-piracy work. The EMEA office also includes specialists of technology and ancillary revenue streams (i.e. collective management). Lobbying activities - including EU-related outreach - constitutes a smaller portion of the EMEA office's work.

Activities
Main EU initiatives covered the year before by activities falling under the scope of the Transparency Register:
|
The MPA monitors the development of EU policies and legislation, notably in the fields of Intellectual Property, Culture, Audiovisual Policy, the Internal Market, Competition and the Information Society. In this context, the MPA regularly meets with national governments, EU officials, MEPs as well as industry counterparts and seeks to contribute constructively to public consultations associated with the EU's policy-development process. These objectives involve written submissions, participation in hearings, conferences and seminars as well as some amount of traveling (e.g. Strasbourg for EP Plenary sessions and Member States holding the Presidency of the Council).
