THE EUROPEANS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD serve the more than five million European nationals living in Europe in another country than their own and the tens of millions of Europeans living elsewhere in the world. One of the statutory aims of The Europeans Throughout the World is to act as a Spokesman for the European expatriates towards all authorities and to be their defender.
Its objectives in summary are to:
- Promote international collaboration between the associations of nationals residing abroad and foster development of such associations. - Advance the study and knowledge in the widest sense of the rights and duties of the Europeans abroad and to act towards all authorities as their spokesman and defender. - Perform studies and joint activities in the spirit of the European Union, and disseminate information. - Contribute to international life and bring together the people.
From the Statutes:
Art.3- L'association est une organisation non gouvernementale. Elle a pour buts: 1 ° de promouvoir le développement de la coopération Internationale entre les associations d'expatriés européens, qu'ils résident dans un de ses pays membres ou en dehors d'eux ( ci-après "pays-tiers"). 2° de réunir des informations sur les activités des dites associations { ... } et sur tous les organismes, institutions, fondations, services officiels et privés s'occupant de la présence temporaire ou permanente à l'étranger des expatriés européens. 3° de susciter la création d'associations à buts similaires dans les pays du Conseil de 1'Europe où elles n'existent pas encore, ainsi que de cercles européens regroupant, dans des pays tiers, des expatriés européens de nationalité différente; 4° de mettre ses Informations à la portée de tous et d'en assurer la diffusion; 5° de faire des études et des publications sur les problèmes communs aux associations d'expatriés européens; 6° d'établir et de mettre en œuvre, à partir de ces propositions, un programme d'actions conjointes conforme à l'esprit communautaire européen ; 7° de faciliter les relations mutuelles entre les associations existantes ou à créer; 8° de promouvoir { .. . } l'étude et la connaissance des droits et devoirs des expatriés européens; 9° de se faire, auprès de toute autorité concernée, le porte-parole et le défenseur des expatriés européens qu'elle représente, pour la sauvegarde de leur sécurité, de leur bien être et de leurs droits ; 10° de contribuer au développement de la vie internationale et au rapprochement des peuples; 11° d'agir conformément aux principes de la Charte des droits fondamentaux de l'Union européenne.

Contacting Commissioners, Members of the European Parliament and national authorities to alert them to the concerns of EU expatriates both within and outside the EU Member States, in order to solve problems of uneven treatment between citizens of different member states as well as concrete problem areas such as: - voting rights, - nationality issues, - diplomatic and consular protection, - social security, - pensions, - education, - mutual recognition of diplomas and professional training, - justice, - access to a "European referent "in the national public services - encourage the Commission to give at least one Commissioner a specific portfolio concerning EU expatriates, etc

The total budget comes from membership subscriptions and covers the basic running and office expenses, with no salaries as all staff are voluntary unpaid officers.
From time to time we organise projects or conferences, on condition that we are successful in obtaining grants from member organisations, national or EU authorities. In these cases the extra budget obtained is spent entirely on the projects concerned. In 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 there was no such project.
