Goals / remit

Goals / remit of the organisation: UBC is a network of 100 member cities from 10 countries from the Baltic Sea Region.
The Union’s aim is to promote and strengthen cooperation and exchange of experience among the cities in the Baltic Sea Region, to advocate for common interests of the local authorities in the region, and to act on behalf of the cities and local authorities in common matters towards regional, national, European and international bodies, as well as achieving sustainable development in the BSR with full respect to European principles of local and regional self-governance and subsidiarity.

Activities

Main EU initiatives covered the year before by activities falling under the scope of the Transparency Register:


UBC has developed the cooperation with other Baltic Sea organizations. Especially, the contacts with the Baltic Development Forum (BDF) and the Baltic Metropoles Network (BaltMet) have intensified and brought results.
The Union has been active in implementation of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. The UBC representatives and member cities took part in the flagship projects meetings and seminars.
Last, but not least, the Union has intensified its involvement in the activities of the Conference of European Cross-Border and Interregional Cities Network (CECICN) In March 2012 Per Bødker Andersen, President of UBC, was elected as the President of CECICN.

UBC is a part of a network Conference of European Cross-Border and Interregional City Networks (CECICN)
This new organisation was established on 23 April 2010 in Santiago de Compostela. CECICN was established by six organisations: Iberian Network of Cross-border Entities (RIET), Forum of Adriatic and Ionian Cities, MedCities, Mission Operationelle Transfrontaliere, Union of the Baltic Cities, Conference of Atlantic Arc Cities (C.A.A.C.).
