Goals / remit
| Goals / remit of the organisation: |
The Regional Studies Association is a learned society with a growing international membership, working on the study of regions defined as sub-national areas.
The Association has both individual and corporate membership and works at the interstices between academia, policy and practice. The Association has a long history of close collaboration with the European Commission and other key supranational organisations.
We research, educate and disseminate within our field seeking to enhance decision making. We organise a busy conference and meeting programme from the international to the local. We fund multiple Research Networks each year bringing together international groups (usually) to discuss themes from ageing to environment in a regional context; we recognise excellence in our field; we publish the leading journal in the field - Regional Studies and a sister journal, Spatial Economic Analysis as well as two magazines - Regions and Regional Insights and a book series - Regions and Cities.
The Association offers support to individuals via conference bursaries and travel awards and we are currently funding a PhD on the interface between the Association's work through time and users.

The Regional Studies Association is a multi- and inter-disciplinary body drawing its membership internationally from both academics and those in policy and practice. Academics tend to be located in Departments of Economics, Geography, Planning including Regional and Spatial Planning, Political Science, Sociology and Civil Engineering. Our interests are similarly diverse. We consider development at the sub-national scale primarily through advocacy, conferences and events and our publishing programme of - journals, magazines, books.
