Activities
Main EU initiatives covered the year before by activities falling under the scope of the Transparency Register:
|
Our main focus is on Information Society related policies, such as the European Digital Agenda, the new e-communications framework and related follow-up, data protection, intellectual property, cyber security, consumer policy and internet governance.
We also follow wider EU policies including the Internal Market (Single Market Action Plan), competition, innovation and economic relations with the EU’s major trading partners, such as bilateral with the US, Japan, India or Brazil and multilaterally at the level of the WTO. As a provider of the UK’s largest occupational pension fund, we also take an interest in the EU’s pension policy. Given BT’s strong commitment to reduce CO2 emissions we take an active interest in Climate Change policy and Green ICT and energy efficiency debate.

Other (financial) information provided by the organisation:

BT supplies managed networked IT services to multinational corporations, domestic businesses, non-governmental organisations and local, national and international government bodies, including the European institutions.
We also participate in EU funded R&D projects and we are involved in the roll-out of broad band in some regions benefitting from EU funding. While we do not receive the latter funding directly, but via the regional governments, we included those in the above figure.
N.B. the numbers are for our financial year running from 04/2011 to 03/2012 and represent a rough calculation based on the data we were able to collect in house.
Our declared EU Affairs budget is for the proportional share in working time, office space and other spending, which occurs in lobbying the European Institutions. It also comprises membership fees in relevant organisations and for consultants in supporting our lobbying activities.
