Other contact information: The Slovak Audiovisual Fund is established by the Act No. 516/2008 Coll. on the Audiovisual Fund and the amendment of certain acts.
The Fund is a selfgoverning public institution managed by professional administrative bodies. The Fund represents a new type of institution in the cultural policy of the Slovak Republic.

The Fund has the following essential goals:
- increase finances in the audiovisual culture and industry,
- flexibility of the financial support and its effective use,
- accountability of the support receivers,
- extended forms of support (grants, loans and stipends are available),
- support to all parts of the film value chain (development, production, distribution, promotion and sales, festivals, events,cinemas,research,education, publishing, workshops, etc.),
- development of the Slovak audiovisual industry and its infrastructure,
- transparent and professional decision making.

Finances of the Fund are based on the combination of public finance (state budget subsidies) and contributions by public or private subjects using audiovisual works as part of their business.

The operation of the Slovak Audiovisual Fund and the main orientation of its activities represent basic conditions for the sustainable development of the audiovisual culture and industry in the Slovak Republic within the context of international cooperation. The Fund provides state aid support according to the scheme SA.32836 (2011/N).

Goals / remit

Goals / remit of the organisation: The basic mission of the Fund is to create conditions for a sustainable development of audiovisual culture
and audiovisual industry in Slovakia by granting financial means mainly for the creation, production,
presentation and public broadcasting of Slovak audiovisual works and the restoration and advancement of
technological basis for the production and broadcasting of audiovisual works in the Slovak Republic.

The mission of the Fund is also to
a) fulfil strategic aims and long term conceptions of the development of audiovisual culture and audiovisual industry in Slovakia, approved by the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic (hereinafter only “Ministry”),
b) contribute to the realization of cultural policies of the Slovak Republic and the European Union in the field of
audiovisual culture and audiovisual industry,
c) suggest actions for the support and development of audiovisual culture and audiovisual industry,
d) support the development of artistic creativity in the field of audiovisual culture and support sustainable development of the corporate environment within the audiovisual field in the Slovak Republic,
e) support the development and use of new technologies in the field of audiovisual culture and audiovisual industry in the Slovak Republic,
f) initiate the development of international collaboration in the field of audiovisual culture and audiovisual industry with the emphasis on co-production of audiovisual works and the spreading of audiovisual works on an international level,
g) support the upbringing, education and research within audiovisual culture and specifically the approach of the younger generation to the audiovisual heritage of the Slovak Republic,
h) ensure equal access to financial means of the Fund intended for the support and development of the audiovisual culture and audiovisual industry, the transparency of granting financial support from the Fund and a periodic evaluation of the effectiveness of use of the Fund’s financial means
i) maintain records and statistics in the field of the Fund’s activity,
j) develop the cultural identity of the inhabitants of the Slovak Republic.

Complementary information: The Fund carries out the following activities:
a) manages the contributions and controls the contributions collected,
b) grants the co-production status pursuant to international treaties and agreements by which the Slovak
Republic is bound,
c) provides financing to the authors of Slovak audiovisual works and the producers of Slovak audiovisual works,
d) creates material conditions for the development of audiovisual culture and the audiovisual industry in the Slovak Republic by providing financial means for the restoration and development of technological infrastructure for the production and distribution of audiovisual works and for the organization of public cultural events in the field of audiovisual culture,
e) provides financial means to the persons for the distribution and presentation of audiovisual works,
f) provides stipends for individuals whose creative activity or research contributes to the development of audiovisual culture and the audiovisual industry in the Slovak Republic,
g) realizes research activities focusing primarily on support systems in the field of audiovisual culture, builds
and uses information databases on the creation, production and distribution of audiovisual works for maintaining the Fund's activities,
h) keeps records of Slovak audiovisual works and persons to whom it has provided financing,
i) provides information on financing granted by the Fund for the purpose of acquisition activities and
information on the granting of co-production status for the purposes of the application of depositing obligations and for the purpose of performing supervision of these obligations to the Slovak Film Institute,
j) cooperates with the state administrative bodies, local government bodies, institutions of public service and persons in regard to the development of audiovisual culture and the audiovisual industry in the Slovak
Republic,
k) participates in activities of international organisations that support the creation, production and distribution of audiovisual works,
l) cooperates with international organisations and foreign institutions that support the creation, production and
distribution of audiovisual works,
m) controls and enforces the compliance of contractual obligations arising from agreements concluded with the
recipients of financing.
