Goals / remit
| Goals / remit of the organisation: |
GeronTech is an indpependent not-for-profit research institute dedicated to the development and promotion of technology innovation for the benefit of older poeple. GeronTech operates through five main programmes: ageing-in-place ICT systems development and integration, generic and applied research, education, and standardisation. GeronTech, incorporated in 1998 under the Israeli law for non-profit associations, was founded as a partnership of two larger philanthropic agencies: JDC-Eshel (Israel) www.eshelnet.org.il and Metropolitan Jewish Health System (New York) www.mjhs.org . The founding partners (comprising the executive committee of the association) continue to fund GeronTech's core programmes and activities. Since its inception, GeronTech has been active in diverse programmes relating to technological development and implementation of systems and services for the improvement in quality of life among the older population. The centre provides expert advice to government, academic, institutional, standardisation, and commercial bodies engaged in the promotion of gerontechnological research and development. Regarding GeronTech's history of cooperation with the European Commission, during 2002-05 the centre successfully coordinated a shared cost project under FP5 (DRIFTS , contract QLK6-2002-00536).
