CIBP gathers banks specialised in dealing with SMEs and individual enterpreneurs. They are mostly decentralised organisations at local level and generally having a cooperative status.
The association aims at developing cooperation among members and represent their interests or the interest of their customers vis-à-vis all authorities (regulatory bodies, supervisors, professional associations).
Its members are represented in 16 countries.

In addition to the ordinary expenses of the General Secretariat, every three years CIBP organises a congress on common topics of interest for popular banks.

The next congress will be held in Rio. The costs of the Congress are split between CIBP and hosting countries.
