Goals / remit of the organisation: L’associazione Federazione Internazionale per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile e la lotta contro la povertà nel Mediterraneo-Mar Nero nasce nel 2004 sulla base dell’esperienza positiva acquisita attraverso il progetto Seam, supportato dalla Commissione Europea (DG Allargamento e DG Politiche Regionali) e del Ministro dell’Ambiente Italiano, il quale diede origine al network composto da 188 partners appartenenti a 37 differenti paesi, rappresentanti di istituzioni culturali, ong, agenzie non governative, centri di studio, istituti di ricerca, università.

L’associazione, ad oggi, conta 212 partners in 39 paesi diversi dell’area Euro-mediterranea e del Mar Nero, rappresentando, quindi, oltre 1,8 milioni di cittadini e cittadine della medesima area.
Il bacino geografico di riferimento è quello del Mediterraneo-Mar Nero, il quale è accomunato da una tradizione storica antica (il bacino Mediterraneo era chiamato anche Mar Bianco di mezzo, in contrapposizione al Mar Nero), fatta di incontri e scontri di civiltà diverse (basti pensare che l’area racchiude i membri delle 3 più grandi religioni monoteiste).

La FISPMED si adopera attraverso azioni volte a rafforzare il contributo della società civile che essa rappresenta, attribuendo ad essa la possibilità di esprimere le proprie riflessioni in merito alle politiche comunitarie e internazionali nelle quali essa è direttamente coinvolta (i.e. l’attuale Processo di Barcellona: Unione per il Mediterraneo). La FISPMED,di conseguenza,raccoglie le istanze dei cittadini che rappresenta e le sottomette all’attenzione dei responsabili istituzionali delle medesime politiche, col fine di contribuire al miglioramento del decision-making process, al rafforzamento del processo democratico partecipativo e alla ricerca di soluzioni adeguate e più efficaci, ovvero che rispondano alle reali esigenze della popolazione coinvolta.

D’altra parte, per far ciò, la FISPMED si avvale anche di progetti di carattere comunitario e internazionale che nascono dalla rete e sviluppano sinergie atte a migliorare le condizioni di vita dei medesimi cittadini di tutta l’area Euro-Mediterranea e del Mar Nero.
