RAC MED is one of the 7 RACs created by the EC (Council decision 585/2004 establishing RACs. It was finally set up in 2007 (Commission Decision 695/2008. RAC MED is a stakeholder-led organization and its role is to enable the European Commission to benefit from the knowledge and experience of stakeholders in the formulation and implementation of fisheries management measures. The RAC-MED is composed of representatives of the fishing industry, producer organizations, ship owners, small-scale fishermen, processors and women networks, and other parties concerned with the Common Fisheries Policy such as environmental organizations, aquaculture producers, consumers and recreational fishermen.
