Goals / remit

Goals / remit of the organisation: PRI seeks to achieve penal reform by promoting:

•The development and implementation of international human rights instruments in relation to law enforcement and prison conditions
•The elimination of unfair and unethical discrimination in all penal measures
•The abolition of the death penalty
•The reduction of the use of imprisonment throughout the world
•The use of constructive non-custodial sanctions which support the social reintegration offenders whilst taking into account the interests of victims.

The following cross-regional projects were funded by the EU in the previous year:

Progressive Abolition of the death penalty and implementation of humane alternatives sanctions and
Strengthening institutions and building civil society capacity to combat torture in 9 CIS countries

There were smaller regional projects in the South Caucasus (1. Promotion of Modern concepts in the administration of Juvenile Justice in Armenia; 2) Civil Society contributing to the Humanization of Criminal Justice System; 3)Promoting criminal justice reforms in Georgia through the engagement of civil society).
