Activities
Main EU initiatives covered the year before by activities falling under the scope of the Transparency Register:
|
In 2012 we were engaging in the debate about increasing the EU 2020 climate target to 30%, discussions on EU ETS, key issues in the international climate negotiation process (UNFCCC) and climate change policy developments in Slovenia. Regarding the European Energy policy we were following the process on Energy Roadmap and Energy Efficiency Directive. We have provided 2 position papers, 2 letters to the policy makers, 2 press releases and had 2 meetings with policy makers. We have regularly shared information with CAN E, participated in the creation of position papers with European NGOs and have regularly informed public about activities through our website and social networks. Regarding the energy policy in Slovenia we were focusing primarily on project TES 6 and Energy Act. We have contributed comments to the proposal of draft amendments to the Energy Act and were involved in preparing a common position paper on the amendments within the Plan B group. By working on the EU funds we wanted to ensure that at least part of the resources in European funds will be directed in sustainable energy and mobility. Focus did not implement any independent project in this field, but we were included in the work of Plan B network. We took part in creation of contributions from Plan B for discussion on the Strategy of Republic of Slovenia. In the field of transport, we followed the policies in the field of vehicles and CO2, biofuels and Energy tax directive. In 2012, we’ve been monitoring the implementation of the regulation on consumer information on fuel economy and CO2 emissions. In the field of biofuels, we advocated for the inclusion of ILUC factors and to reduce production of biofuels from food. At the European level, reviews of the regulations on CO2 emissions for vehicles were carried out. We informed Slovenian decision makers with positions, which are slightly more ambitious from European Commission proposal. In the past Slovenia was ambitious regarding CO2 standards for vehicles, that’s why we strive to maintain this position further. Focus had four main lines of international cooperation in 2012. With Climate Action Network Europe we followed European and international climate and energy politics. Focus has been promoting CAN E positions on the international climate negotiation and implementation of the climate and energy package among Slovenian decision-makers. We followed the Energy Roadmap process and the passing of the Energy Efficiency Directive and position papers for stakeholders prepared were prepared for both. With Friends of the Earth Europe we also followed the Energy Roadmap process and the passing of the Energy Efficiency Directive. Our cooperation with European Federation for Transport and Environment focused on the Cars&CO2 directive, but we also worked on the Eurovignette directive and the energy tax directive. Focus has been promoting T&E positions and publications among the decision-makers and the public. We cooperated with CEE Bankwatch network on the TES 6 project by putting pressure on EIB and EBRD.
