The Institute maintains and develops contacts with a number of foreign institutions, universities and specialized academic and art organizations, including in terms of taking leading positions in their work, and a number of the fellows take considerable part in international activities by participating in conferences, research collaborative projects, and lecturing at foreign universities. The leading role of the Institute in the study of art and culture within Bulgaria is realized as well through the specialized training of doctoral students with the perspective of their active incorporation in the academic community. A vital factor for attracting young specialists lies in the advanced educational profile as well as the perspective of gaining knowledge in newer art studies directions, connected with the dynamics of art in the modern world. Each PhD student is trained according to an individual plan under the supervision of an expert in the relevant art sphere and with the active support of the academic staff.
