The mission of Geological Survey of Slovenia (GeoZS)is to provide knowledge about the Slovenian geology. This task is not made easier by the Slovenian territory being a junction of three large tectonic units: the Alpides, Dinarides and Pannonian basin, a consequence of which is extraordinarily heterogeneous geology.
Geological data represent a basis for solving numerous questions of national importance, such as: protection of health and environment, drinking water supply, mitigation of natural catastrophic events, urban planning, prospecting and assessment of mineral deposits, etc.
Geological Survey of Slovenia collects and stores geological data within a modern geological information system and has close to 40.000 expert reports and research projects stored in its archive.
