Goals / remit
| Goals / remit of the organisation: |
Netval is the association which joins together Italian universities and PROs concerned and involved in the valorisation of public research results. Netval now collects 52 Italian universities, the Italian Centre for Aerospace Research (CIRA), the National Research Council (CNR) and ENEA (Italian National agency for new technologies, Energy and sustainable economic development). Its mission is the valorisation and exploitation of research results through the network of university Technology Transfer Offices (TTOs) and collaboration with the economic and industrial system, public institutions, industrial associations, venture capital investors and financial institutions. Netval therefore aims at representing the strategic bridge between university research and companies that rely on innovation to foster their competitiveness.
Born as an informal network in 2002, in 2007 Netval evolved in a chartered association whose main purpose is still the harmonization in the legal tools commonly used and the diffusion of information and culture of technology transfer in Italy, reached through networking initiatives among university technology transfer offices, sharing tools and strategies, organizing meetings and training courses.
Netval is the Italian partner of ProTon Europe, the pan-European network of Knowledge Transfer Offices (KTOs) and companies affiliated to universities and other Public Research Organisations (PROs).
Goals Netval strives to consolidate the competencies of Italian universities in fostering Universities’ expertise and capability in protecting and increasing the value of research results, to improve collaboration with industries and to generate new products and spin-off companies. In particular Netval acts: - to identify universities’ role and needs about intellectual property and tech transfer - to stimulate exchange and sharing of technology transfer best practices, procedures, tools and research contract templates - to generate, encourage and empower the dialogue between research and industrial world promoting technology transfer processes - to organize training activities, seminars and conferences to increase knowledge and awareness about technology transfer tools and best practices - to create links between patents and Italian universities spin-off portfolios at national and European level
Activities Netval was created to increase the value of universities’ research through training activities for the formation of new professionals able to encourage partnership and cooperation between the economic system and the academic world.
Netval’s targets are technology transfer offices and, more generally, all centres involved in knowledge transfer and research management. Best practices sharing and tech transfer process analysis are two of the main themes of Netval’s seminars and the focus of the yearly Netval Summer School.
The most important projects in which Netval is involved are: - training activities ans summer schools about intellectual property, patenting, licensing, research and know how contracts and university research spin off creation; - research activities regarding technology transfer in university through the annual collection of information and data from all the Italian universities (Netval Survey); - information activity about intellectual property for Netval members and their stakeholders; - networking among all the associates (staff exchange programmes, best practices sharing and templates, working groups and workshops); - networking among universities, companies, institutions and finance (conferences, seminars and workshops)
