De Nederlandse Elasmobranchen Vereniging is in 2010 opgericht met als doel de kennis over haaien en roggen in te verbeteren om zo de populaties beter te kunnen beheren en waar nodig te beschermen. Ze richt zich hierbij op vissen die voorkomen in Nederlandse wateren maar ook in wateren bevist door Nederlandse vissers./ The Dutch Elasmobranch Society was founded in 2010, its goal is to improve the knowledge we have about sharks and rays to facilitate better managament of the populations of these fish and were necesarry protect them. The focus of the organisation is on sharks and rays living in Dutch waters and in waters fished by Dutch fishermen.
We follow the implementation of the new CFP specifically the landing obligation and Multi Annual Plans and the MSFD, spefically measures related to descriptoe 1 and 3.
The focus of the NEV is on better management and protection of sharks and rays. We work with the national and EU government to improve legislation on marine issues relavant to elasmobranchs and work nationally to increase public awarness on the status of shark and ray species.
The NEV is in involved in drzfting the concept msnagememt plan for sharks and rays for the MSFD objectived of the Dutch government
In 2010 the NEV led a joint NGO-response for the consultation for review of the EU shrak fining regulation.
The NEV gave advice to the NL government in advance of the TAC and quota negotiations in December on shark fisheries.

The NEV is the Dutch member of the European Elasmobranch Association and is a representative of the other interest groups int eh Pelagic, North Sea and North West Waters Advisory councils.
