    Goals / remit

The Brussels European Employee Relations Group (BEERG) provides a forum for European employee relations specialists and in-company employment lawyers to discuss issues of mutual concern.

BEERG has over 60 major transnational corporations in membership. We work closely with the Washington-based HR Policy Association and with the Singapore-based Asia Pacific Employee Relations Group (APERG), which means we can offer employee relations advice and services to members on a global basis.

BEERG membership is drawn predominantly from corporations which come within the scope of the European Works Council Directive. Such companies have to manage increasingly complex European- and national-level information and consultation procedures when it comes to managing restructuring in Europe. The 2009 EWC Directive adds to this complexity. The BEERG “mission” is to help member companies get to grips with pan-European employee relations issues and to assist them in implementing European business strategies.

This also involves helping member companies understand global employee relations issues, such as international trade union strategies, NGO “activism”, and the role of organisations such as the ILO, the OECD and the UN”s Global Compact. BEERG works directly with member companies faced with requests from Global Union Federations to negotiate International Framework Agreements. Through our partnership with the HR Policy Association, based in Washington, BEERG can assist members with labor relations concerns in the United States. Together, BEERG and HR Policy work with member companies on labor law and employee relations issues arising in their own operations and in their global supply chains, especially in China.
