Der VPI ist innerhalb des Fachverbandes Industrie verschiedener Eisen- und Stahlwaren e.V. organisiert, der einer der Fachverbände des Wirtschaftverband Stahl- und Metallverarbeitung (WSM) ist. Über den WSM ist auch eine Anbindung an den Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie e. V. (BDI) gegeben.
Darüber hinaus ist der VPI Mitglied in der European Firewoks Association (EUFIAS)und der International Fireworks Association (IFA).
