Goals / remit

Goals / remit of the organisation: Who is Virke?
Hovedorganisasjonen Virke – The Enterprise Federation of Norway – is the employers’ federation and interest organisation of app. 16 000 member companies with more than 205 000 employees. Virke offers services to employers related to employment legislation, commercial and policy issues. Among Virke’s members are 700 not-for-profit organisations with app. 25 000 employees that provide health and social services to the general population. Our remaining members are ordinary companies. Virke is thus a leading voice for civic society institutions, business and commercial life in Norway. Virke maintains an extensive network of employers’ federations, NGOs, academia, companies, trade unions and politicians domestically and internationally. Virke uses this to play an important and constructive role in Norwegian society. Virke has regular contacts with the government, with Parliament and with European federations and institutions. Our main objective is to create sustainable conditions for quality, competitiveness and sound economics for not-for-profit federations and business alike and thereby maintain the basis for a good standard of living, sound economic growth and sustainable development. Virke’s core services to our members are:
• Practical solutions to practical problems. Virke’s raison d’être – reason for existing - is to make everyday matters work well for our members.

• Employer support. We communication communicate closely with our members - providing advice to difficult issues. This relates mostly to legal questions, HR and analyses.

• Building communities. We initiate innovation projects, establish both sectoral and cross-sectoral communities. We act as the external voice for these communities.

• Challenge established systems. We openly seek to influence legislation and policy developments to maintain our members’ interests. Our method is to ask questions and challenge politicians locally, nationally and internationally.

Virke’s President is Mr. Sverre Leiro. Virke’s Chief Executive Officer is Mrs. Vibeke H. Madsen.
