Acea è una delle principali multiutility italiane. Quotata in Borsa nel 1999, è attiva nella gestione e nello sviluppo di reti e servizi nei business dell’acqua, dell’energia e dell’ambiente. E’ il primo operatore nazionale nel settore idrico, il terzo nella distribuzione di elettricità e nella vendita di energia e il quinto nel settore ambientale. Il Gruppo conta oltre 6.700 dipendenti. Nel piano industriale 2011-2013 sono previsti 1,3 miliardi di euro di investimenti concentrati, per oltre il 70%, nelle attività regolamentate acqua e distribuzione elettrica. La Società è una delle poche aziende europee a poter vantare da 3 agenzie il rating nell'area della singola "A". Tra le attività: servizio idrico integrato (acquedotto, fognatura e depurazione), produzione di energia, in particolare da fonti rinnovabili, vendita e distribuzione di elettricità, illuminazione pubblica e artistica, smaltimento e valorizzazione energetica dei rifiuti. L'acqua, l'energia, l'ambiente sono elementi fondamentali per Acea.
