OmPrompt Limited is an award winning B2B Connectivity platform who have deployed a SaaS capability to provide solutions for the supply chains of some of the world's largest companies (but also SME's). The solutions deliver 100% end to end supply chain integration/connectivity & delivers a quantum change in visibility & efficiency. Based on this successful business model, OmPrompt has launched an initiative to build the equivalent of Expedia/Amadeus for Intermodal Freight.Funding has been secured from a combination of private investors & the UK government via the Technology Strategy Board to develop a proof of concept in the first half of 2013 & launch a Beta version with the support of a group of 10 industry stakeholders (shippers & carriers) in the second half of 2013.A new company named ImPortal Limited has been formed to pursue this initiative.

Goals / remit
| Goals / remit of the organisation: |
OmPrompt's remit is to help our clients build 100% connected enterprises using process automation to reduce costs, improve visibility & improve data quality. As part of the ImPortal initiative OmPrompt (with partners ELUPEG Limited & Bisham Consulting Limited) seek to build an end to end Intermodal Freight booking Portal which will facilitate: Modal shift, reduction in congestion & pollution through minimising carbon footprint & reductions in cost of transportation procurement. The TAILgate Portal (Transport & Intelligent Logistics Gateway) provides an opportunity for a paradigm Shift in Transportation Procurement & Visibility of assets thereby facilitating a significant shift to multimodal solutions & an end to end highly automated process.

Whilst OmPrompt's principal focus is the delivery of 100% enterprise connectivity solutions for its current & future clients, we have through extensive & detailed workshop discussions deduced that the TAILgate 2 initiative described below will transform the Intermodal Transportation arena & deliver a highly efficient electronically enabled procurement process.
TAILgate 2 is innovative as it requires the bringing together of a significant array of variable issues in such a way such that newly developed algorithms can match supply & demand for multimodal freight transport. Such a capability has never been created before as it requires the integration of a very significant set of shipping requirements governed by sophisticated business rules to be matched to a capacity database with an equally significant set of requirements governed by a separate set of business rules. In order to achieve the “paradigm shift” in transportation procurement which will result in fewer empty miles run by trucks & a significant modal switch, this process needs to be highly automated (the UK target market in 5 years is 10 million loads per year which is impossible to manage with any significant degree of manual intervention). The TAILgate 2 platform will need to deliver matches of close to 40,000 loads per day and return matched opportunities to stakeholders in close to real time in order for them to have the confidence to adopt this new paradigm. The technical capability to deliver this volume of matches in close to real time is unproven. The TAILgate 1 “demonstrator” proved that the integration of supply and demand could be achieved but against a minimum set of matching criteria and with little pressure on speed of response. The POC will require the use of very efficient interfaces & a much larger “superset” of both shipper & carrier requirements as well as being able to demonstrate the interaction with a range of databases utilising both revised existing & newly created algorithms . It is clear from our discussions with potential stakeholders (and some of the largest business in the UK market), that proving TAILgate can handle the large volume requirements accurately & repeatably in close to real time is not only a prerequisite but a major technological challenge., In the same context we will need to create a high speed database mining capability in order to access and recover the load and asset details from respective carrier/shipper databases, locate assets in the field using live GPS/GSM positioning, apply the business rules, transform mapping formats and render the data to the web Interface or the client ERP system. An added dimension where innovation is key is the ability to render the ICG in such a way that users (both shippers & carriers) can easily step into using it without a fundamental change in their current processes

ELUPEG Limited
ELUPEG, formed in 2003, is the only European organisation whose sole focus is the fostering of logistics collaboration. ELUPEG is unique in recognising the critical importance of including all the major stakeholders in the process, hence its members include manufacturers of all kinds, logistics and transport companies, retailers, distributors, technology providers, consultants, educators and financial service providers. Tailgate 2 represents a major potential breakthrough in supply chain collaboration by providing a platform of discovery as well as enabling collaborative transactions without the hitherto point to point collaboration projects which required months or even years of trust building. Collectively ELUPEG members have a wealth of real business experience and can demonstrate how collaboration in logistics and supply chain can transform businesses, slash costs and contribute significantly to the achievement of environmental targets. As a not-for-profit organisation, ELUPEG is run by its members for the benefit of its members, their customers and suppliers and the public as a whole.ELUPEG will provide the overall high level project oversight through industry peer review. Dissemination and adoption will play a key role within the project and it is ELUPEGs responsibility, through seminars, conferences and focus groups to re-educate the freight and logistics industry. A key deliverable required of ELUPEG will be the production of an exploitation plan.
