Le CREIS est une association loi de 1901 créée en France en mars 1984. Il s'est développé ensuite dans l'espace francophone et en Europe.
Il a pour objectifs principaux de :
* Réaliser et diffuser des recherches concernant les multiples interactions entre les Technologies de l'Information et de la Communication et la Société.
* Confronter les expériences pédagogiques et faciliter les échanges autour du thème "Informatique et Société".
* Organiser des actions de sensibilisation aux conséquences sociales, économiques, politiques, juridiques, culturelles de l'informatisation de la société, auprès de publics variés (colloques, journées d'étude, rencontres-débats...) .
* Agir auprès des organismes public ou privés.
