Goals / remit

Goals / remit of the organisation: The Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI) is acting at national level as a coordinating agent of a regional chamber system nation-wide in the country. Currently, the 23 regional chambers of commerce and industry have about 35.000 registered member companies, including the industrial, commercial and financial sector. In Hungary the chambers are public law bodies. The compulsory chamber membership has been abolished in November 2000 and - due to the new Chamber Act - the chambers are now operating in a voluntary membership system.

The philosophy of the HCCI is to promote the interests of entrepreneurs and of the general economy in a manner that it is politically neutral but based on an efficient dialogue with the political actors. The chamber has 13 committees that embrace the most important areas of economic life. A common objective of the chamber is to strengthen small and medium enterprises, while increasing their competitiveness.

The mission of the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry is to foster the development of the economy, to safeguard business transactions and fair market practices, to represent the general and joint interest of those carrying out business activities. At international level, the Chamber’s objectives include the provision of assistance to Hungarian entrepreneurs in foreign markets, in particular promoting their successful integration into the European Union, and fostering their co-operation with the business world of other European countries.

The most important activities of the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry are the followings:

- Promotion of the interest of SME-s and of the large company sector as well as the interest of the handicraft industry

- Active contribution to the preparation of the decisions influencing the business world

- Close co-operation with the Government and the ministries having in mind the political independence of the chamber

- Supporting the interest of the Hungarian economy on the way to the successful EU integration

- Active contribution to the reinforcement of the vocational training system

- Co-operation with trade unions, entrepreneurial organizations and lobbying

- Running an advanced chamber system covering the whole country.
