    Goals / remit

The principal activity of Deloitte LLP is the provision of Audit, Tax, Consulting and Corporate Finance services in the United Kingdom. Deloitte LLP’s strategy is to be the pre-eminent professional services firm for clients and talent, reflected in superior growth and performance compared to market.

Tax: Deloitte LLP communicates with EU institutions or other public authorities on our own account in response to public consultations. In responding to such consultations we generally comment (from our practical experience, for example as tax practitioners of the commercial and tax issues facing our clients) on the likely effectiveness of proposed measures to meet stated public policy objectives and on likely side-effects, such as administrative burdens on business. In any event we would be transparent as to whose interests we were representing and as to the basis of the representations Please note that this activity is a very small proportion of our activities and not the basis on which we earn revenues. Our revenue-generating activities include representational activities which we would not characterise as lobbying, for example we represent clients in primarily taxation matters by filing tax returns on their behalf to taxation authorities and corresponding with the authorities and otherwise representing clients to the authorities concerning agreement of the returns or related matters within the administrative discretion of the authorities.

Other: one individual in our internal public policy team is starting to spend a portion of their time focussing on European matters (on behalf of the firm, not its clients), most often relating to economic and financial affairs. This will likely involve some engagement with EU officials and staff.

Number of persons involved in the activities described in the box above

Tax: submissions to the EU are only an extremely small part of the work of three individuals and, in our view, has no marginal cost. At present, we respond only on Taxation issues and would not expect to make more than 2 submissions in a year. Accordingly, in our view the appropriate cost is indeed €0.

Other: a portion of one individual's time. See 'activities' below.

    Membership and affiliation

“Deloitte” is the brand under which tens of thousands of dedicated professionals in independent firms throughout the world collaborate to provide audit, consulting, financial advisory, risk management, and tax services to selected clients. These firms are members of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (“DTTL”), a UK private company limited by guarantee. Each member firm provides services in a particular geographic area and is subject to the laws and professional regulations of the particular country or countries in which it operates. DTTL does not itself provide services to clients. DTTL and each DTTL member firm are separate and distinct legal entities, which cannot obligate each other. DTTL and each DTTL member firm are liable only for their own acts or omissions and not those of each other. Each DTTL member firm is structured differently in accordance with national laws, regulations, customary practice, and other factors, and may secure the provision of professional services in its territory through subsidiaries, affiliates, and/or other entities.

Deloitte LLP is the United Kingdom member firm of DTTL.
