    Goals / remit

AECC is an international association of European companies engaged in the development, production and testing of catalyst and filter based technologies for engine exhaust emissions control. This includes the development, testing and manufacture of autocatalysts, ceramic substrates and specialty materials incorporated into the catalytic converter and filter and catalyst based technologies to control engine emissions (especially particulates and nitrogen oxides). Members' technology is incorporated in the exhaust emissions control systems of new cars, commercial vehicles, buses, non-road mobile machinery and motorcycles in Europe.
The principal objectives of the Association are:
- to foster and promote the use of state-of-the-art technologies for the control of noxious emissions from mobile sources;
- to collect and disseminate information concerning laws and regulations, safety and environmental concerns, studies relating to vehicle exhaust emissions and methods for their control;
- to promote the harmonisation of technical standards, test procedures and safety regulations;
- to sponsor scientific research programmes related to the objectives of the Association and disseminate the results at conferences and in scientific publications.

The object of the Association is chiefly scientific, namely the promotion of the technological and economic development of the catalysts industry which includes additives used as catalyst precursors or catalytic filters that enable emissions from mobile sources to be controlled.
The Association proposes to carry out the following activities in order to achieve its object:
- to foster state-of-the-art technologies to control harmful emissions from mobile sources and to promote the use thereof;
- to gather and disseminate information concerning laws and regulations, safety and environmental problems, expert studies and opinions relating to vehicle exhaust emissions and methods to control the same;
- to promote the harmonisation of technical standards, testing procedures and safety regulations;
- to set up contacts at national and international level;
- to promote scientific research programmes on topics relating to the Association's object and disseminate the results at conferences, in scientific publications and at any other opportunity.
