Goals / remit
| Goals / remit of the organisation: |
HelpAge helps older people claim their rights, challenge discrimination and overcome poverty, so that they can lead dignified, secure, active and healthy lives.
In the past year, 750,000 older people and their families accessed our health, emergency and finance related services on 1.4 million occasions. We helped two million older people claim their first pension payment - or receive an increased sum, and supported 50,000 older people to fight abuse and discrimination cases.
We work to address the following issues that affect older people worldwide: Climate Change, Emergencies, Health, HIV/AIDS, Rights, Social Protection, Work and the Post-2015 debate.

Activities
Main EU initiatives covered the year before by activities falling under the scope of the Transparency Register:
|
HelpAge engages actively in the debate about social protection in EU development cooperation. This has involved participating in the various consultations organised by the EC around the communication on this issue and organising events involving MEPs in collaboration with other civil society organisations.
HelpAge works with DG ECHO on the issue of older people in emergencies. This involves collaborative policy work, input to consultations and regular participation in ECHO partners events.
HelpAge is active in the field of Development Education and Awareness-Raising and we have been working with a number of our EU Affiliates to raise public awareness of issues around older people in development and to connect these members of the public to MEPs to build greater awareness and support for these issues within the European Parliament.
HelpAge has been engaging actively with the 2012 European Year of Active Ageing and Solidarity Between Generations initiative. This involves advocacy around the mainstreaming of ageing into external as well as internal policies, an intergenerational campaign and collaborative work and joint statements with the EY2012 Stakeholder's Coalition led by AGE Platform Europe.
HelpAge is engaging at the global level on the process towards a post-2015 development framework. At the EU level, this involves linking with the team in DG DEVCO leading on this process, inputting to the EC public consultation on this issue, joint advocacy with civil society organisations at the EU level through the Beyond 2015 EU Taskforce and involvement in the consultation around the 2013 European Report on Development.
