EWLA is a federation of non-governmental organisations, which is committed to improving the way research animals and wild animals are treated throughout the European Union. It uses its scientific and technical expertise to advise on animal welfare issues and encourages the validation and use of alternative testing methods.

Research animals: the use to test chemicals, pesticides, cosmetics, safety testing of feed and food, their use in biotechnology, the development of alternatives to animal tests, animal cloning for food.
Wildlife: animals used in zoos, wildlife trade (CITES), exotics imported for the pet trade, whaling and the protection of marine mammals.
Climate change: the effect on widlife as part of the environment and the effect of livestock farming on climate change.
Sustainable development: sustainable agriculture and aquaculture, sustainable consumption and production; green public procurement, quality farming, rural development.
