Other contact information: IDSN is an international lobby and advocacy network with a secretariat based in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The organisation was founded in March 2000 as an informal network by a group of international human rights organisations, Dalit Solidarity networks in Europe and the National Campaign on Dalit Human Rights in India. In 2003, it was officially registered as an NGO.

The international secretariat of IDSN is based in Copenhagen with four staff members. Together with member organisations and associates, IDSN carries out EU lobby activities.

Goals / remit

Goals / remit of the organisation: IDSN works for the following objectives:
• To work for the global recognition of Dalit human rights and contribute to the fight against caste discrimination and other forms of discrimination based on work and descent around the world by raising awareness and building solidarity.
• To advocate for Dalit rights - seeking to influence policies of governments and international bodies and institutions, to monitor enforcement and implementation of anti-caste discrimination measures, and to facilitate Dalit rights interventions at various levels internationally, including at the EU and UN level.
• To expand and consolidate the work of IDSN through effective networking and coordination.

Main EU initiatives covered the year before by activities falling under the scope of the Transparency Register:

IDSN is a coalition between national Dalit advocacy groups in caste-affected countries, national Dalit Solidarity Networks in Europe and the US, and international human rights and development organisations. Actions draw upon the resources of the network members and aims to link grassroots priorities with international mechanisms and institutions to make an effective contribution to the liberation of those affected by caste discrimination.

IDSN brings together organisations, institutions and individuals concerned with caste-based discrimination and aims to link grassroots priorities with international mechanisms and institutions to make an effective contribution to the liberation of those affected by caste discrimination.

As an international lobby and advocacy network, IDSN targets international level institutions such as the EU and the UN. All activities are carried out by members in the network, with the assistance of the IDSN Secretariat.

IDSN is a non-partisan and non-profit membership organization dedicated to work for the elimination of discrimination based on work and descent. IDSN is not a funding body. No part of its net income shall accrue to the benefit of any organization or individual.

IDSN is an independent organization which acts independently from any policies and priorities made by governments. IDSN does not have any ties with any government or state agencies.

IDSN has worked with and benefited from its association with a number of international organizations consisting of three types of organizations: International human rights organizations; international non-governmental development organizations; research institutions and international faith bodies.
