El objeto de la Federación Gallega de Cofradías de Pescadores es la coordinación, gestión y representación de los intereses económicos y sociales del sector pesquero-marisquero de Galicia y está compuesta por las 3 Federaciones Provinciales y las 62 Cofradías de Pescadores Gallegas lo que es igual a 22.000 profesionales de la pesca de bajura y del marisqueo . El proceso de constitución de una entidad como esta supuso un impulso de importantes consideraciones para un sector tan imprescindible en la economía gallega como es el de la pesca artesanal y el marisqueo.
