Goals / remit
| Goals / remit of the organisation: |
Promote the interoperability of card payment transactions through:
- design, development and maintenance of common card payment protocols, namely in the acceptor-to-acquirer relationship within the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA); - involvement of stakeholders of the card payment industry in the development of standards; - interoperability of components and systems through standardised protocol interfaces; - adoption of a universal ISO procedure for the endorsement of the standards.
Promote and protect the interests of its member organisations through:
- creation of an ad hoc legal structure for the common development and evolution of specifications and standards; - commitment to protect the reputation and ethics of its members; - fight against any violation of the intellectual assets owned by its members; - assurance that the evolution of the standards will be ensured within the same organisation; - adoption and take-up of the specifications and standards by the market.
Ensure the development, evolution and use of common standards through:
- involvement of all actors of the card payment value chain; - use of state of the art technologies; - adherence of a high level of security, notably through a universal ISO security syntax (CMS: Cryptographic Message Syntax); - adoption of new modelling mechanisms in the representation and management of data (e.g. UML); - support of new mechanisms such as XML and ASN.1/TLV in the coding of data; - commitment to the principle of open and royalty free specifications; - wide dissemination of the EPASOrg specifications and standards to all stakeholders of the industry.
Strengthen the commitment to open, common and universal standards through:
- adoption of ISO 20022 as the preferred approach towards a common, universal way of developing worldwide standards; - formal declaration made to ISO 20022 that all EPASOrg standards will be made available free of charge to any interested party.
Ensure an appropriate level of partnership and lobbying actions vis-à-vis:
- partners of the card payment industry and related entities involved in similar or complimentary standardisation activities (e.g. EPC,ISO TC68, etc.); - national, European and international authorities in charge of the regulation and/or supervision of card payment related activities.
